On January 9, 2026, I rented a vehicle through Surprice in Orlando, Florida, with a reservation made in advance via Priceline, at a total cost of US$105.48, already including all taxes, fees, and liability coverage, as evidenced by the attached documents.
Despite my clear statement that all coverages were already included, the rental agent, without my consent, added liability coverage again. To do so, he provided only a tablet for signature, without proper explanation, and generated a new unauthorized charge, creating another reservation totaling US$273.12.
In addition, an extra charge of US$196.68 was applied, allegedly to cover tolls and a possible empty fuel tank. However, the vehicle was returned with a full tank and only three tolls were used. Even so, the company improperly retained this amount, contradicting the promise to refund the remaining balance.
At the time of return, I requested a receipt and was informed that none would be issued, as the amounts would be refunded. This has not occurred.
Therefore, the company has improperly retained a total of US$364.32, which must be immediately refunded. This conduct constitutes abusive charges and unfair practices against the consumer, in violation of Florida law, particularly the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUTPA Fla. Stat. 501.201 et seq.).
I hereby demand the immediate reimbursement of US$364.32, failing which I will file a formal complaint with Florida consumer protection agencies and other competent authorities.
We have always conducted our rentals responsibly and honestly, paying in advance and returning vehicles in perfect condition. We have never faced such a situation with other rental companies, either in the United States or abroad.
